JPPrison’s pickaxe system is built around 35 data-driven enchants — each with its own levels, upgrade costs, unlock requirements, activation effects, and an optional per-enchant prestige track. Everything is defined in YAML, so you can tune, disable, or extend any enchant without touching server code.

Enchant Categories

Break-Type Enchants (Area Mining)

These enchants replace or augment the standard single-block break with multi-block effects. Each one has progressive animations, particle bursts, and full sell/XP rewards for every block destroyed.

Passive & Utility Enchants

These enchants apply persistent buffs and bonuses rather than triggering on each block break.
The exact list of passive enchants in your server depends on your plugins/JPPrison/enchants/ folder. Any enchant YAML file in that folder is loaded at startup — you can add, remove, or replace them freely.

Upgrading Enchants

Players upgrade enchants directly from the pickaxe upgrade menu:
  1. Right-click the pickaxe while holding it.
  2. The upgrade GUI opens, showing every enchant with its current level, next level cost, and unlock status.
  3. Click an enchant to purchase the next level — cost is deducted immediately.
Upgrade costs are configured per-enchant using a base cost and a growth multiplier. For example, if base is 500 tokens and growth is 1.15, level 2 costs 575, level 3 costs 661, and so on. You can also enforce unlock level requirements on any enchant. A player must reach the configured /prison level before the enchant even appears as available in the menu. For example:
“You must reach Level 50 before unlocking the Nuke enchant.”
This gates late-game power behind progression and keeps new players from skipping the early mine tiers.

Enchant Prestige

Each enchant supports its own prestige track, independent of the global pickaxe prestige. When a player prestiges an individual enchant:
  • That enchant’s level resets to 1.
  • The player pays a one-time prestige cost (configured in the enchant YAML).
  • A permanent per-enchant multiplier bonus is applied to that enchant’s output.
Enchant prestige stacks with global prestige — a fully prestiged enchant on a fully prestiged pickaxe compounds both bonuses.

Per-Enchant Prestige vs. Global Prestige

Both systems can be active simultaneously and their bonuses multiply together.

Configuring Enchants

Every enchant is a standalone YAML file in plugins/JPPrison/enchants/. Here is an annotated example for the Explosive enchant:

Adding Custom Enchants

You can add entirely new enchants without recompiling the plugin:
  1. Create a new .yml file in plugins/JPPrison/enchants/ (e.g., mythic.yml).
  2. Define all required fields (id, name, max-level, costs, etc.).
  3. Run /jpprison reload.
Your new enchant appears in every player’s pickaxe upgrade menu immediately. There is no limit on the number of enchants you can define.
Each id must be globally unique across all enchant files. Duplicate IDs cause the second file to be silently skipped on load — check the console for warnings after reloading.

Activation Effects & Messages

Every enchant can define visual and audio feedback that triggers each time the enchant activates during mining:
  • particle — plays the named Bukkit particle effect at the activation point.
  • sound — plays the named Bukkit sound at the player’s location.
  • message — sends a color-formatted chat message to the activating player.
All three fields are optional. Remove any field to disable that feedback element for that enchant.

Earnings Board

Run /earn to open a live per-enchant earnings breakdown. The board shows exactly how much income each of your enchants has generated this session, letting you identify which enchants are driving the most value and where to invest your next upgrade.
