# Prestige System — Global and Per-Enchant Progression

> Earn permanent multiplier bonuses by prestiging your pickaxe or enchants. JPPrison supports global and per-enchant prestige with configurable caps.

Prestige is JPPrison's long-term progression loop — players reset their pickaxe level (or individual enchant levels) in exchange for **permanent multiplier bonuses** that compound over time. The further a player pushes into the prestige system, the more powerful their pickaxe becomes relative to the time invested.

## Global Prestige

Global prestige resets the entire pickaxe level and awards a multiplier that boosts **all** economy earnings and XP gains.

### How to Prestige

Run `/prison` to check your current prestige level, your current pickaxe level, and the exact cost and level requirement to reach the next prestige tier. When you're ready:

```
/prison prestige
```

JPPrison validates the following before processing:

1. Your pickaxe level has reached the configured maximum (e.g., level 100).
2. You have enough currency to pay the prestige cost.

If both conditions are met, your pickaxe level resets to 1 and your global prestige counter increments by one. Your new multiplier is applied immediately to all autosell income and XP rewards.

### What the Multiplier Does

The prestige multiplier is a flat bonus applied on top of all earnings:

* A **+10% multiplier** at prestige 1 means every block you mine pays 1.1× the base price.
* At prestige 5 with **+50%**, the same block pays 1.5× — without changing any block prices.

Higher prestige tiers also unlock **higher multiplier caps**, meaning later prestiges can exceed limits that earlier ones cannot reach.

> [!TIP]
>
> Encourage players to use `/prison` regularly — seeing the next prestige tier's bonus and cost on screen is one of the strongest motivators for continued play.

## Per-Enchant Prestige

Individual enchants support their own prestige tracks, **completely independent** of the global pickaxe prestige. A player can prestige a single enchant dozens of times without ever touching the global prestige system.

* Per-enchant prestige is accessed through the **pickaxe upgrade GUI** (right-click the pickaxe).
* Each enchant's prestige cost and maximum tiers are set in its own YAML file.
* Prestiging an enchant resets **only that enchant's level** to 1.
* The player earns a permanent bonus multiplier applied specifically to that enchant's output.

### Per-Enchant Prestige vs. Global Prestige

| | Per-Enchant Prestige | Global Pickaxe Prestige |
| - | - | - |
| **Scope** | One enchant resets to level 1 | Entire pickaxe level resets to 1 |
| **Bonus** | Multiplier on that specific enchant's output | Multiplier across all economy earnings and XP |
| **Access** | Pickaxe upgrade GUI | `/prison prestige` |
| **Config** | Each enchant's YAML file (`plugins/JPPrison/enchants/`) | `config.yml` |
| **Stacks with global?** | ✅ Yes — bonuses multiply together | — |

Both systems can run simultaneously. A player who has prestiged both their pickaxe globally and their Explosive enchant individually will compound both bonuses on every Explosive activation.

## Prestige Costs & Tiers

Prestige costs scale exponentially to create meaningful long-term goals. Here's a generic example of how costs and multipliers might scale across tiers:

| Prestige | Cost | Cumulative Multiplier Bonus |
| - | - | - |
| 1 | 100,000 tokens | +10% |
| 2 | 250,000 tokens | +20% |
| 3 | 500,000 tokens | +30% |
| 5 | 1,000,000 tokens | +50% |
| 10 | 5,000,000 tokens | +100% |

> [!NOTE]
>
> These values are illustrative. Your actual costs and bonuses are defined entirely by the `prestige` block in your `config.yml`. Tune them to match your server's economy pace.

## Configuring Prestige

The global prestige system is configured in `config.yml` under the `prestige` key:

```yaml theme={null}
prestige:
  enabled: true
  max-level-required: 100      # Pickaxe level player must reach before prestiging
  cost:
    type: tokens               # Economy used to pay prestige costs
    base: 100000               # Cost at prestige tier 1
    growth: 2.5                # Each subsequent prestige multiplies cost by this factor
  multiplier-per-prestige: 0.1 # Earnings/XP bonus added per prestige tier (+10% each)
  max-multiplier: 5.0          # Hard cap on the total prestige multiplier (500%)
```

| Field | Description |
| - | - |
| `enabled` | Set to `false` to disable global prestige entirely |
| `max-level-required` | The pickaxe level a player must reach before the prestige option unlocks |
| `cost.type` | The economy `id` used to charge prestige costs |
| `cost.base` | Cost in tokens for the very first prestige |
| `cost.growth` | Exponential growth factor applied to cost per prestige tier |
| `multiplier-per-prestige` | Flat bonus added to the earnings multiplier per prestige tier |
| `max-multiplier` | The maximum total multiplier — no prestige tier can exceed this cap |

After editing `config.yml`, run `/jpprison reload` to apply the new values.

## Bonus Caps

The `max-multiplier` setting exists to prevent runaway economy inflation on long-running servers. Without a cap, a player with 50 prestiges at `+10%` each would earn **6×** the base rate — which could collapse the value of early-game currency and make new-player progression feel pointless.

Setting `max-multiplier: 5.0` means no player can ever earn more than **5× the base rate** from prestige alone, regardless of how many times they prestige. Enchant-level bonuses, timed boosts, and sell multiplier enchants stack on top of — but never circumvent — this cap.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Changing `max-multiplier` on a live server affects all players immediately upon reload. Lowering it below a player's current multiplier will silently clamp their earnings down to the new cap. Communicate changes to your playerbase before applying them.
